Old Portage - 1915

The placid Ohio Canal meanders northward in the right side of this view of Old Portage. The tracks of the Valley Railroad are paralleled by Merriman Road. Granmer's Grocery (later Jacob's) is seen in the background.

 

The Ford abandoned beneath the No Parking sign might have belonged to the intrepid photographer who shot this 1916 view of Main and Market, Milton A. Morris, of Peck's Studio. The big building on the corner is the Reserve Hotel. In the background you can see the Old Post Office and Hotel Akron.
